'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews contest with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the dramatic dying seconds of Swansea's stunning fightback win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear following the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative effort from distance, and Cameron Burgess quickly hammered in the rebound before racing off toward the East Stand to revel in the moment, with supporters congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory capped an extraordinary turnaround given Swansea had found themselves down 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. During the delirium, there was some minor mishaps. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory booked a next round match at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith came close against at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with his former club in February. The athletic midfielder had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's first-time shot from about way out going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for attempting the shot from that range," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before moving to right flank after they changed formation. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the City players who paid tribute to the way the underdogs approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the basics and simple things, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they always find their target and they understand how to dictate and neutralize a game. You can believe you're all right and then without warning they will just thread a ball through a line without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It requires a tough attitude and focus just to keep pace."

New Chapter

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a popular figure across a couple of years at Orient and has quickly achieved similar status in Wales. At the London club he linked up again with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a loan at fourth-tier Salford City, before he moved on from Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think many athletes would say youth team games is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without much intensity. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that development for both domestically and internationally, excelling for the Green and White Army, who could still reach the World Cup next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the past five games, including two matches encounters against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a killer pass.

Starting Out

It has been quite the ride for the player from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his father, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Red Devils Debut

The player's single match for the Red Devils came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they played on an synthetic surface and the stadium roof was sealed owing to the weather of bitter cold. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he says, grinning. "The days leading up, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "This turned out fairly simple, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the years at the club but it got to the point where I believed I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during mid-afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at 5pm: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a frequent passenger in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"My companions include a teammate, the Brazilian, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's nice to interact with the guys but I'm planning to be the following person to drive independently and driving. The Portuguese player is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

When he represented his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside supporters on the Tube after commuting at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
